Troms County Council takes on the chairmanship of the Barents Regional Council

Troms County Council takes on the chairmanship of the Barents Regional Council and Committee for the next two years. In this picture, taken in Murmansk in October 2009, we see the Chair of Oulu Region, Mr Pauli Saarpunki, handing over the reins to Mrs Pia Svensgaard, Chair of Troms County Government.
Mrs Svensgaard gave an orientation about visions for the work to be carried out over the next two years and she says: “My wish is to vitalise the regional council and to enable it to play a larger political role. Focus must be given to the fisheries/fishing industry, petroleum activities and new sailing routes between the continents.”
