In wintertime the geologist and geotechnicians work more with avalanche operations, where they in cooperation with the contractors out on the roads deal with the constant threat of avalanches.

In addition, two of the six technicians are on a 24-hour alert, always ready to act when needed. The mitigation consists of fieldwork, avalanche forecasting, preventive road closures and the use of avalanche control by RACS (Remote Avalanche Control System) and helicopter (DaisyBell).
