How Avalanche Control is Conducted
Avalanche control involves the controlled triggering (detonation) of avalanches. Weak layers in the snowpack collapse under the pressure from the explosion, which can trigger avalanches under unstable snow conditions. Avalanches are triggered when the road is closed, and the size of the avalanches is reduced by performing regular detonations at the right time. Avalanche control can be carried out both from helicopters (DaisyBell) and from fixed installations (RACS-Remote Avalanche Control System).
